A gutter only has one job — to catch the water coming off your roof and carry it safely to the ground, away from your walls and foundations. When it leaks, blocks or sags, that water goes everywhere it should not: down the render, behind the fascia, into the wall and, eventually, into the house. Munster Gutters has been repairing guttering across Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Waterford, Clare and Tipperary since 2010 — from a single leaking joint to storm damage across a whole terrace. Every repair starts with a free assessment, is fully insured, and is backed by our workmanship guarantee.

Below are the gutter faults we fix most often. If you are not sure whether yours needs a repair or a full gutter replacement, we will tell you honestly after we have looked at it — and if the guttering is simply choked with debris, a gutter cleaning may be all it needs.

Leaking Gutter Repair

Gutter leak repair by Munster Gutters

Most gutter leaks start at the joints, where two lengths meet or where a gutter connects to a downpipe. The rubber seals in uPVC unions harden and shrink over ten to fifteen years, and once a joint weeps, the water tracks down the wall behind it — often showing up as a damp patch inside long before you spot the drip outside. We re-seal or replace failed unions, refit brackets to bring the gutter back to the correct fall, and test the whole run with water before we leave.

Blocked & Overflowing Gutters

Leaves, moss and roof grit build up at the outlets and downpipes until the gutter fills and spills over the front edge in every shower. Overflowing gutters are the single most common cause of damp walls and rotten fascia in Munster homes. We clear the full run and every downpipe, flush it through, and check why it blocked in the first place — a low spot, a missing outlet cage or an overhanging tree.

Sagging & Pulling-Away Gutters

A gutter that sags in the middle or pulls away from the fascia has lost its support — either the brackets have failed or the fascia board they screw into has gone soft with rot. Water then pools in the dip instead of running to the downpipe. We re-bracket the run at the correct spacing and fall, and where the fascia behind it has rotted, we flag it so the whole roofline can be sorted properly rather than screwing new brackets into failing timber.

Leaking Joints, Unions & Corners

Corners and running outlets take the most stress and are the first fittings to fail. We replace cracked corner pieces and unions like-for-like, matching your existing profile and colour so the repair is invisible, and reseal the connections to downpipes so nothing weeps behind them.

Downpipe Repairs

Downpipes crack behind fixings, pull off the wall, or block solid at the shoe or the underground gully. We refit loose brackets, replace split sections, clear blocked pipes and make sure the water is actually reaching the drain rather than pooling at the base of the wall.

Storm & Wind Damage Repair

Munster takes the full force of Atlantic storms, and high winds regularly tear gutters and downpipes off exposed and coastal homes. We carry out fast storm-damage repairs — refixing, replacing torn sections and making the roofline weathertight again — and can provide the documentation you need for an insurance claim.

Cast Iron Gutter Repair & Restoration

Period and heritage properties across Munster still run original cast-iron guttering, and it is well worth saving. We repair, re-seal and repaint cast-iron gutters and downpipes rather than ripping them out — the same careful restoration work we carried out on cast-iron guttering for the Bank of Ireland. If a section is beyond saving we can match new cast-iron or a cast-iron-effect aluminium profile to the original.

Repair or Replace?

A localised fault — one leaking joint, a blocked downpipe, a few loose brackets — is a repair, and a cost-effective one. But if the guttering is brittle, leaking in several places, or the same faults keep coming back, patching it is money after bad. In that case a full gutter replacement is the honest, longer-lasting fix. We give you the straight answer after the survey, never the more expensive one by default.

Every Gutter Material We Repair

We repair guttering in every material found on Irish homes. uPVC guttering is the most common — we re-seal joints, replace cracked lengths and refit brackets on it daily. We also repair aluminium guttering and seamless guttering, restore period cast iron guttering, treat and patch galvanised steel guttering, and carefully repair heritage copper guttering. On flat-roof box gutters we repair EPDM rubber lining, we re-bed weeping joints with the correct gutter sealant, and where a run keeps clogging we fit gutter guard mesh. Rotten fascia board material behind the gutter is renewed so new brackets have sound timber to fix to.

Gutter Parts We Repair & Replace

A gutter is only as good as its weakest fitting, so we repair and replace every part of the system. Dropped runs get new gutter brackets at the correct spacing; a leaking gutter joint is re-sealed or renewed; a cracked stop end or gutter angle is matched and replaced; a blocked hopper head is cleared; and we refit the drip edge so water discharges cleanly into the gutter rather than tracking behind it.

Common Gutter Faults We Fix

Beyond leaks and blockages we deal with the full range of faults: sagging gutters that have dropped out of line, gutter rust on old steel and cast iron, and cracked guttering that has split in the cold. Weeping joints get gutter re-sealing; a run that can no longer be brought back to fall gets gutter realignment; a pipe beyond saving gets downpipe replacement; and where the roofline has gone we carry out fascia rot repair.

Gutter Repair Costs in Cork, Limerick & Munster

Small repairs — resealing a joint, refitting brackets, clearing a downpipe — are modest fixed-price jobs. Larger repairs depend on the length affected, the height and access, and whether scaffold or a tower is needed. We quote a fixed price after seeing the guttering, so you know exactly what the job costs before we start. No call-out charge for a quote, and no surprises after.

Gutter Repair FAQs

How do I know if my gutter needs repair or replacement?

A single leak, blockage or loose bracket is a repair. Guttering that is brittle, leaks in several places, or keeps failing after repairs is usually better replaced. We give you an honest recommendation after a free assessment.

Why does my gutter overflow even though it is not blocked at the front?

The blockage is usually at the outlet or down inside the downpipe, or the gutter has lost its fall and water pools instead of draining. We clear the whole run and re-set the fall so it drains properly.

Can you repair cast-iron guttering rather than replace it?

Yes — on period and heritage homes we repair, reseal and repaint cast iron wherever it can be saved, and only replace sections that are beyond restoration. It is the same work we did for the Bank of Ireland.

Do you carry out storm-damage repairs and insurance work?

Yes. We respond quickly to storm damage across Munster, make the roofline weathertight, and provide the documentation you need for an insurance claim.

How much does a gutter repair cost?

Small repairs are modest fixed-price jobs; larger ones depend on length, height and access. We give a fixed quote after seeing the guttering, with no call-out charge for the assessment.
